No, we don’t have set editing rates.
Not everyone has a great handle on grammar and punctuation, but some people do! And then there are the insanely studious among us who cringe when they see someone using an en dash where they should be using an em dash…
Our editing rates are per word, based on how much work needs to be done to get your book ready for publishing. If you submit a super-clean copy for editing, your rate will be lower than a “rough” version. Make sense?
Help us help you. You pay less, and we don’t go through as many red pens. Everyone wins!
Services
Proofreading
Most traditional publishing houses require their books to be proofread, and self-publishers should seriosuly consider this step as well!
This is our chance to give your book a high polish while checking for any last-minute absolute errors such as:
– Misspelled Names
– Hyphen stacks
– Widows and orphans
– Double words
– Missing words
Copy Editing
Our most popular service! Your copy editor will find just about every mistake and correct it.
This stage of editing covers typos, grammar and punctuation errors, and other mechanics of writing (lots of red ink!). They’ll also:
– Break up longer paragraphs
– Ensure consistency throughout the novel
– Point out vague or incorrect statements
Developmental Editing
Developmental editing is also called a structural edit, story edit, or content edit. Whereas other areas of editing focus on mechanical errors and language use, our developmental editors will focus on the soul of your book—the story!
Developmental editing covers:
– story arc
– character behavior
– character motivations
– plot holes
– scene relevance
Interior Formatting
Not sure how to format a your book? No worries! We can help with print copies and ebooks. Want images or chapter heading designs? No problem!
If you’re not sure whether you want to create an ebook, print book, or both, we’ll help you figure that out.
Line Editing
Also called “stylistic editing,” line editing comes before copy editing and after developmental editing. Your line editor will focus on the clarity and flow of your novel.
More importantly, your line editor will focus on your individual writing style. Your line editor will work line-by-line to:
– tighten up sentence structure
– word choice and syntax
– the tone or emotion in each sentence
Cover Art
Readers are often overwehelmed with choices when it comes to choosing a new book, so they often end up selecting one based on its cover design.
We’re going to help you stand out from the competition while bringing your story to life. We’ve partnered with some of the best cover artists out there. Check out our portfolio to see for yourself!
