New authors always ask, “How do I market my book? Do I go on social media?” Therefore, I’ve compiled all my best tips into one handy blog post. Here’s how to market your book on social media.

Facebook marketing can help you sell more books.

Social media marketing is an essential part of ebook marketing. It has the ability to build your reputation as an author, grow your audience, and help you sell more books.

This process can be time-consuming, but it is an essential part of growing your reader base. It can build your reputation as an author, grow your audience, and get your book in front of more people.

Create your author page.

Every journey starts with a single step, right? If you want to start connecting with readers, gain a following, and let people know about your book, then this is your first step. Creating an author page on Facebook is free, and it’s the easiest way to get started with book marketing. You can build a large audience by

  • sharing blog posts
  • photos of you at book signings or events
  • pictures from around the world where people are reading your ebook
  • quotes about why they love books
  • links to reviews written for your ebook

and more!

As a new author, you’ve got to start somewhere with ebook marketing, so begin by filling out your author Facebook profile. Most established authors use a professional photo of them as their profile picture, but this is not a requirement. Instead, you could use a high-quality image of your book cover.

However, there’s a good argument for using your actual photo. Your readers want to be able to connect with you on a human level, and it’s easier for them to do that if they can see who you are.

Use a content planner to help schedule posts.

If you want to become a successful ebook marketer, it’s important that you develop the habit of planning and scheduling your posts.

You’ll waste less time on social media if you use a content planner like Canva, which allows you to schedule out several days’ worth of marketing activities at once. These tools also make social media marketing more efficient since you can organize your posts by topic or genre.

For example, if you use Canva to write your social media posts for the next month, you’ll be able to plan out what photos and videos to post during each day of that time period. If one video does well with your audience, you’ll have the flexibility to use that same video over and over again, just by reposting it at different times throughout your ebook marketing campaign.

This strategy will help you get more out of your marketing activities because you won’t be doing all the work in one or two bursts per week. You can spread your posts throughout the month and get the most social media traction for each social media post you make.

Vary the type of content you post.

Whatever you do, don’t simply spam your author Facebook page with “buy my book!” ads. It’s a turn-off, and it screams amateur. Instead, vary your social media posts! You want your target audience to connect with you as a human, so let them see your personality. The goal is to encourage reader engagement with your posts.

Post lots of photos.

Post photos of you working on your books or doing something related to the creation process. For example, if you prefer to write at dark-thirty in the morning, post an awesome image of you “getting to work.”

It’s totally okay to post a random image, but make sure it’s still related to your books! Otherwise, it can be confusing to some readers.

Giveaways

Post about giveaways. Once you have a couple of short stories or books published, post a giveaway on Facebook. People love free stuff, especially avid readers.

Seriously, do you have any idea how much money some people spend on books?? It’s incredible! Free books from new authors are irresistible to some readers!

Promote your book.

Announce anything new about your books!

Did you just send your latest book off to your editor or did your editor just finish polishing your book? How about hitting your first 100 sales? Post about it!

Keeping your readers in the loop gets them excited. Readers hate sitting around, wondering when their favorite author will put out their next ebook. It’s best to keep them updated.

Video marketing

Video marketing is another thing to consider adding to your marketing strategy. In the world of search engine optimization (SEO), video is one of the newest trends. It’s a great way for your target audience to see you, your book, and get information quickly. Give it a try!

Ask for readers to join your ARC group.

Ask for advance reader copy readers (ARC readers). There are entire groups on Facebook dedicated to this purpose. These ebook fans will read your book and most likely post a review on Amazon or Goodreads. Score!

Use Facebook Ads.

Use Facebook ads to boost your ebook marketing posts. These will help you grow a bigger audience and ebook sales!

Facebook ads can be a little tricky to do on your own. Luckily, Facebook has a tool designed to put your ads in front of relevant users automatically. You do have to pay for this service, but the vast majority of authors deem it worthwhile.

You can set a monthly budget for your ads, plug that number into your Facebook Ads page, and let it do its thing. Before jumping in, however, get acquainted with how Facebook Ads works

Ask people to like and share your page.

You can also ask people to like and share your posts. We all love social media, right? So, asking for a little social media love isn’t too much of a stretch!

So many authors are afraid of this step, but there’s no reason to be! Sure, not everyone will follow your call to action, but a couple of people will. After a while, your number of likes and shares will build.

Connect your website to your author page on Facebook.

Another SEO tip to add to your marketing strategy is to link your author website to your author page on Facebook. It sounds hard, but it’s actually easy to do.

In your social media post, add a link to a relevant page on your website. For example, if you post about an upcoming release, link to that relevant page on your website. Or you could even link that post to the area on your website that allows readers to sign up for email alerts from you.

Think of backlinks like roads in a city. These roads allow people to easily get from one internet page to another. If you’re trying to rank on Google for your genre, this is a great way to get started.
